Cinchonidine

General Description:

Cinchonidine is a quinoline alkaloid, a kind of cinchona alkaloid, also called Cinchovatine, a stereoisomer of cinchonine. Existing in Cinchona officinalis and also Gongronema latifolium.

Similar to quinine, it has antimalarial effects. It can be obtained by separating quinine from the extract of cinchona bark, treating the mother liquor with alkali to separate out alkaloids, and adding tartaric acid to make it into insoluble tartrate.

Cinchonidine is an important class of natural products discovered about two centuries ago from the bark of the cinchona tree.

Applications:

Cinchonidine is an organic synthesis intermediate and a pharmaceutical intermediate, which is mainly used in the laboratory organic synthesis process and the chemical and pharmaceutical research and development process.

  • Cinconidine is used in the manufacture of antimalarials, antiarrhythmics and other drugs.
  • Also used as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic to relieve pain.
  • It is used as a useful framework for bending synthetic catalysts. From the perspective of biosynthesis, cinchona alkaloids are derived from monoterpenoid indole alkaloids.
  • In addition, it is used in the production of certain drugs to treat cancer.

Appearance:

The product is generally white needle-like or prismatic crystals.

Cinchonidine Solubility:

  • Soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene and chloroform, almost insoluble in cold water.

Cinchonidine Structure:

  • C19H22N2O

Cinchonidine is the stereoisomer and pseudoenantiomer of cinchonine.

Similarities:

Both cinchonine and cinchonidine are alkaloids derived from the bark of the Cinchona tree. They both have antimalarial properties and are used to treat fever and other symptoms of malaria.

Differences:

  • Cinchonine is a quinine-like alkaloid, while cinchonidine is a quinidine-like alkaloid.
  • Cinchonine is more effective in treating malaria than cinchonidine.
  • Cinchonine has a bitter taste, while cinchonidine has a sweet taste.
  • Cinchonine is more toxic than cinchonidine.
